Eminent Tisburghers
Tisbury History Society is pleased and honoured to have won the Alan Ball Award 2024 for the best Community Local History publication, given each year by CILIP (The library and information association) Local Studies Group, a national organisation.
Our book, ‘Eminent Tisburghers: a celebration of past inhabitants of Tisbury written by some of its current members’ is edited by Christina Richard. It is a 242pp hardback; an ecletic collection of essays by twenty local amateur writers on forty past inhabitants of Tisbury who during their lives had a national profile. These vary from one of Charles 1’s regicides through journalists, soldiers from various wars, Bletchley girls, writers, artists, a former Lord Chancellor, a prominent politician and a mountaineer. It was chosen from over twenty entries and the judges were kind enough to say that they were ‘extremely impressed by every aspect of the book, its content, illustrations, presentation and the research and community effort behind it’.
We have sold out our initial print run but will be publishing another run and if you would like a copy please email [email protected] or [email protected] and we will add your name or organisation to the waiting list.
